I found this segment of the 10/13 show to be really interesting. Basically, there's a village in Columbia where some people carry a gene for early onset Alzheimers (late 40s and early 50s), and there's researchers there trying to learn about it, to develop better treatments and hopefully a cure, eventually. Families will even donate brains of victims to the researchers for study...there seems to be a real partnership between the community and the researchers.
